
New Delhi, September 11, 2026 | Nirmesh Singh : PI Industries has launched CARVINT (Flometoquin 10% SC), a new-generation insecticide aimed at controlling thrips and diamondback moth (DBM) in high-value vegetable crops such as chilli, cabbage and cauliflower.
The company said the product, based on Flometoquin 10% SC, offers a distinct mode of action and long residual control, positioning it as a new option for farmers dealing with persistent pest pressure and growing insecticide resistance. It is targeting key vegetable-growing markets in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Pest attacks remain a major challenge for vegetable farmers, particularly those growing chilli and cole crops. Thrips are among the important pests affecting chilli, while diamondback moth is considered one of the most serious insect pests of cruciferous crops, including cabbage and cauliflower.
The product contains Flometoquin, classified under IRAC Group 34, representing a new insecticide mode of action for the Indian market. According to the company, the differentiated chemistry can also be incorporated into resistance-management programmes by rotating it with insecticides having different modes of action.
“Farmers today are navigating growing pest resistance, frequent spray requirements, shorter control duration and rising crop-management costs. CARVINT brings a differentiated mode of action that provides farmers with a new tool for effective and sustained pest management,” said Saket Bhatnagar, CEO, India Brands, PI AgSciences.
He added that the product’s novel mode of action could make it useful in resistance-management programmes and enable the responsible rotation of chemistries.
However, while highlighting the product’s efficacy, persistence and resistance-management benefits, the company did not provide details in its announcement on potential health risks to farmers and farm workers arising from exposure to the insecticide. The issue assumes significance because pesticide exposure is a recurring occupational concern in agriculture. The Pesticide Action Network UK (PAN UK) has reported that nearly half of the world’s farmers are poisoned by pesticides every year. Farmers and agricultural workers can be exposed during pesticide preparation and application, as well as through contact with treated crops, contaminated equipment and clothing.
