After MSP Satyagrah exposed government’s claim of farmers getting minimum support price (MSP) at mandis, the farmers’ organization Jai Kisan Andolan has now launched a daily MSP alert, tracking the daily prices across various mandis. The MSP alert will be published on social media handles of the Jai Kisan Andolan and associated organisations and also be circulated through whatsapp.
Announcing it, National Convenor of Jai Kisan Andolan, Avik Saha said, “MSP alert will provide information to media, agri researchers, policy makers & citizens as to whether farmers are receiving MSP that PM & FM assured in the Union Budget”.
It is to alert the nation and government on ever deepening agrarian crisis of India and shall be spread through all channels of media & social media, six days a week, he added.
Yogendra Yadav said the nation needs to know and understand if farmers are being cheated & looted at agriculture markets. MSP alert will be created by analysing data published by government itself and credible media and research sources.
Jai Kisan Andolan has requested citizens who live near agricultural markets to visit the markets and to gather information about what price farmers are getting and what difficulties they are facing in the markets. The information may be mailed to jka@swarajabhiyan.org. Jai Kisan Andolan will circulate credible information received, through MSP Alert. The nation needs to rally together to save the lives and livelihoods of farmers so that food sovereignty of the nation is protected.
The MSP Satyagrah’s interim report had estimated that the difference between declared MSP and actual prices across the country for six major winter season crops would cause farmers a total estimated loss of ₹14,474 crore.
