Kathmandu, April 9 (ANN): India and Nepal on Wednesday signed an agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture. The MoU was signed by India’s Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Nepal’s Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ram Nath Adhikari, during Chouhan’s visit to Kathmandu for the 3rd BIMSTEC Agriculture Ministerial Meeting.
Highlighting the significance of the agreement, Chouhan stated on social media platform X: “With a focus on enhancing crop productivity, improving post-harvest management, strengthening agri-marketing systems, and promoting climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural practices, this agreement will further deepen the partnership between our two nations.”
According to a statement from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the agreement will facilitate cooperation in diverse areas such as agricultural science and technology, crop production, agricultural trade and marketing, plant protection, horticulture, integrated farming systems, and micro irrigation, among others.
The two ministers also reviewed the progress of ongoing bilateral initiatives and discussed avenues for expanding agricultural collaboration.
Later in the day, Chouhan met with Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli. The two leaders exchanged views on modernising agriculture, ensuring food security, and enhancing economic development through collaborative efforts.
