Farmers affiliated with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha will resume their protest march – Dilli Chalo towards Delhi today. A group of 101 farmers is set to begin the march from the Delhi-Haryana Shambhu border at noon, heading towards the national capital. However, the Shambhu border has been sealed to prevent farmers from reaching Delhi.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said, “Our farmers will be on foot and undefended”.

The farmers’ key demands include a legal guarantee for MSP, a debt waiver, pensions for farmers and farm labourers, and a halt to electricity tariff hikes. They are also calling for justice for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence, the reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and compensation for those who died during the 2020-21 farmers’ agitation.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the government, criticizing Prime Minister Modi and claiming that the protest has exposed his true position.

Security has been intensified at the Delhi-Haryana Shambhu border, where farmers continue to protest. On Friday, as the farmers resumed their march, they were met with tear gas at the Punjab-Haryana border, resulting in several injuries. In response, Haryana Police reinforced barricades as farmers attempted to break through in an effort to reach Parliament.

In light of the ongoing protest, internet services in Ambala have been suspended until December 9, and additional security forces have been deployed. The Ambala administration has imposed restrictions on gatherings of more than five people.

Earlier this year, farmers attempted to march to Delhi but were blocked by security forces.
