Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has fixed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Toria (mustard family crop) of Fair Average Quality (FAQ) for 2017-18 season to be marketed in 2018-19 at Rs. 3900/- per quintal.
“The cabinet took the decision today”, said the agriculture and farmers welfare ministry.
It also said , “The cabinet took the decision on the basis of the normal market price differentials between Toria and Rapeseed/Mustard”.
The problem, according to various reports has been that MSP does not really reach farmers as procurement agencies does not buy crop, resulting in distress sale at much lower prices.
Currently, mustard, a Rabi crop is grown on around 5.5 to 7 million hectares in India.
