Class 4 student ‘Aanvi’ from Barabanki appeals to save farmers

New Delhi, 05 Dec 2023 | Nirmesh Singh

Aanvi

Teaching kids about agriculture helps them appreciate the process behind the food they consume daily thereby fostering a sense of respect for the food they eat and for farmers. Aanvi, a class 4th student from Anand Bhawan School, Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh has written a note – an appeal to save farmers.

Save Farmers

Farmers are the backbone of our food supply.
They work hard in the fields to produce food grains and vegetables for us.
They work in the toughest conditions to produce the crops for us.
However, they are not generally paid well.
We need to make sure that they get right price for their produce so that their life becomes easy.

Commenting on it, noted food and agriculture expert Devinder Sharma, said, “When school-going children realize that farmers need to be given the right price to sustain their living, it means the nation has started acknowledging that farmers are being denied income security. Only policy makers can’t see that.”

As farmers are grappling with low farm incomes, farmers in India have been demanding the legal guarantee of MSP (Minimum Support Price) for their produce for last two years.

It is worth mentioning here that – Sam Farr, a former US Congress member and one of the political heroes of the sustainable agriculture movement in US, also said, “To make agriculture sustainable, the grower has got to be able to make a profit.”
