Thiruvananthapuram, 23 Jan 2025 (ANN): The uniform minimum support price (MSP) for paddy procurement set by the Central government is unscientific and fails to benefit farmers in States with high production costs, Kerala Agriculture Minister P. Prasad stated on Wednesday.
Addressing a calling attention motion in the Kerala Assembly earlier this week January 22, 2025, the Minister highlighted that the current MSP primarily favours farmers in States with lower production costs. He urged the Centre to adopt a State-specific approach to fixing the MSP for paddy, considering the varying production costs across States.
The existing MSP mechanism overlooks the economic realities of States like Kerala, where production costs are significantly higher” Mr. Prasad emphasized.
