Tea production in Assam and West Bengal has declined in first five months of this year 2021 by 60-70 million kg owing to dry climate and spread of coronavirus infection amongst tea property staff.
“We have lost crop in April and May due to a dry spell. May crop has been down by 25% compared with 2019,” told, Azam Monem to media.
Consequently, tea prices on the auctions have already increased by 5-10% in the last one month and due to this tea prices in market are likely to increase in July.
In 2020 also, the nationwide lockdown had impacted tea manufacturing, pulling it down by 140 million kg as compared to the production in 2019.
