Indian Council of Food and Agriculture has bagged a very prestigious contract for India in African country of Zambia. Under the deal finalized with the Ministry of Defense, Republic of Zambia, ICFA has been offered Land Blocks of 5,00,000 hectares in each of its 10 provinces on 99 years of lease, where ICFA has to develop in collaborative mode agricultural projects through Indian companies, agencies and institutions with equity participation of the Government of Zambia. In first stage ICFA will be doing pilot at 10,000 hectares of land in Shibuyunji District near Lusaka, the Zambian capital.
Speaking on the occasion Dr M J Khan, Chairman ICFA said that there are tremendous business opportunities in agriculture and animal husbandry, particularly agro-processing, Livestock and Fisheries, Floriculture etc in Zambia, which ICFA will develop, involving Indian companies and institutions in agriculture. In the current context, livestock production and bovine meat is a big opportunity in Zambia, given the strong market for the same in gulf region. This investment in agriculture can secure food for Zambian people and also boost agribusiness opportunities and agro-food trade for Indian companies and entrepreneurs. The investors can also export the agriculture produce to other neighboring African countries and Middle East. Dr. Khan added that Zambian government is committed to offer investor friendly environment to carry out business. Zambian Government will be lending support in terms of all necessary infrastructure required for establishing and running businesses.
ICFA will select investor partners from each vertical for this prestigious pilot project considering the professionalism and track record of respective organizations. Investors will be shortlisted on first come first served basis.
