Although the Union Cabinet on Economic Affairs, on Wednesday, gave ex-post facto approval for MoU signed among India and various BRICs countries for establishment of the BRICS Agriculture Research Platform BRICS-ARP but the land for the same in NCR has not been identified yet for the last one year.

BRICS agriculture research centre in NCR was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at BRICS summit in Russia last year. Following it the Uttar Pradesh government was tasked with identifying 20 acres of land for the purpose in Meerut district.

In order to improve the condition of small and marginal farmers, a MoU on establishment of the Agricultural Research Platform was signed by the foreign Ministers of BRICS countries to intensify cooperation among BRICS countries in agricultural research policy, science and technology, innovation and capacity building, including technologies for small – holder farming in the BRICS countries.

The official statement from the government said, “The Centre will promote sustainable agricultural development and poverty alleviation through strategic cooperation in agriculture to provide food security in the BRICS member countries.”
